STRIP DISTRICT. Touted as Pittsburgh's "First Video Night Club," Altar Bar is located in the building that used to house Sanctuary. Gone are the cocktail girls in Catholic school uniforms; in their place is an upscale bar with three private VIP areas, professional bottle service, and options to book anything from a single VIP section to the entire club for your own private party. For a real surprise, visit the club on Sunday for an honest-to-goodness church service (Steel City Church) with free coffee and snacks.

STATION SQUARE. Four clubs on site make it tough to grow bored at this large party hub. For the young energetic clientele hot dancing, from 80s to salsa, is the main attraction. Venues range from Liquid, a cutting edge, Miami-style club, to Velvet a Latin-inspired lounge. Club Goddess booms with Top 40 hits, while Exit boasts the best 80s party in town. Drink specials offered throughout the week; college night Thursday and ladies' night Saturday.

DOWNTOWN. A perennial favorite, Pegasus attracts a mostly gay crowd, but welcomes all. Located in a basement space, the club features two bars, one main dance area, and several gathering areas ­ the dance floor gets packed most nights. Special events include drag shows and theme nights. The crowd and the staff are friendly and fun.

STRIP DISTRICT. Boasting LA swank in the 'Burgh's Strip District, this club will make you feel like a VIP but without the annoying paparazzi invading your privacy. Trendy spenders from all age groups gather to mingle on plush couches and play on the dance floor and around the bar. Nominally higher prices are more than fair when you consider how cool you'll look among the hotshot fat cats and celebutants of Pittsburgh's elite clubbers.

STATION SQUARE. Saddle Ridge brings a little taste of hometown country to folks in Pittsburgh. If you're sick of techno and hip-hop dance bars, then this place is for you. The large, open layout helps keep things from feeling too crowded, even when they are. A mechanical bull is the centerpiece of the country oasis, and the staff all sport country attire (guests are encouraged to do the same). If you're not too comfortable dancing, know that they offer line dancing classes most weekends.
