SOUTH SIDE. When you walk through the door of Abruzzi's, you might think there is only seating enough for 10. One should venture further through the entry way and into a large, open dining area that is great for a casual business lunch. Here is a place where Sinatra croons, the silverware doesn't match, the Italian is good, and the service is great ­ what more can you ask for?

SQUIRREL HILL. Famous for its competition with neighboring shops, Aiello's "slings pies" using a no-nonsense approach. The owner, Pete, often chats with customers, and although he's good at small talk, don't let him distract you from the mouthwatering homemade sausage that's used on pizzas crafted with thick dough and smothered in cheese. After all, it's the food that gives this joint its well-deserved place on the list of Pittsburgh's best pizza parlors.

SOUTH SIDE. This corner café serves up traditional Italian fare such as pasta e fagioli, grilled chicken breast tossed with vegetable orzo pasta,and veal with hot peppers and tomatoes in a white wine and lemon sauce. Lighter fare includes numerous salads and pastas. Or "create your own," by choosing one of four pastas, six sauces and numerous add-ins like mushrooms, hot peppers, spinach, roasted garlic, capicolo, or sun-dried tomatoes. Freshly made bruschetta is served with every entree.#13;#10;

STATION SQUARE. Locals warn that you should call Buca di Beppo several days in advance for reservations ­ this fun Italian eatery is that popular. This is a great place to go with the family or a group of festive pals. Meals are served family style, so be prepared to dig in for your share of their signature chicken cacciatore, traditional baked ravioli or savory seafood pasta. Don't miss the garlic bread or the prosciutto and Gorgonzola salad, and of course, save room for Pittsburgh's best cannoli.

SOUTH SIDE. Café Allegro is one of Pittsburgh's most popular restaurants and, thanks to Chef Joe Nolan, the French and Italian fare has received numerous awards. The dining areas are wonderfully intimate, yet polished.
